Favorite Runway Looks from Karl Lagerfeld

These pieces from the 90′s Chanel Ready to Wear Collection scream out my mom’s name because it used to remind me of how my mom would dress for work every morning. Everyone in the hospital knew my mom as the girl with the tweed jacket and mary jane heels. I admired how she put in the extra effort in the morning to enhance a look that many people view as dull or boring, because of her efforts, I’ve always aspired to dress like her when I grow up and have a job. Of course, some of these pieces are more revealing than others, but it’s one of my few favorite pieces that I still fall in love with over again because Karl Langerfeld, the brains behind these pieces, managed to blend conservative like work attire and make it sexy to wear.

Corona Couture

Despite living a new normal, where we only thought outbreaks of a virus was a thing only found in video games and movies. Healthcare workers, delivery drivers, and grocery store employees have become our most valuable player in the efforts in combating the virus. And another unexpected player has joined the game, fashion designers. And despite the fashion industry not considered an essential worker, they recognize the problem with the lack of PPE and mask. We need to acknowledge the designers that take the initiative to use their skills to provide a safe outcome for our healthcare workers.

Christian Siriano, Brandon Maxwell, Pyer Moss, Ralph Lauren, Eileen Fisher, Karla Colletto, Brittany Allen, Michael Costello, Naeem Khan, Nicole Miller, Dov Charney, and many more designers as time evolves have gathered their team, their manufacturing house, and their threads to provide healthcare workers with PPE’s and medical gowns as well as face mask for their local community.

Additionally, big brands like GAP, Hanes, and Reformation have also taken the responsibility of providing PPE’s and medical gowns for hospitals who desperately need them to ensure quality and safe care for their patients.

Thank you, health heroes, in your effort towards combating the pandemic and thank you, fashion heroes, for giving them the armor they need to stay in the fight.

Karl Lagerfeld’s confusing legacy

It’s been over a year since cancer took away the famous German designer, and his death leaves fashion critics and enthusiasts a perplexing feeling. Many know Karl Lagerfeld as the man that completely refurbished the name of Chanel, who made most of their income selling perfume and accessories. The business struggled to stay alive after the passing of their previous successor Gabrielle Chanel. Lagerfeld breathed life into Chanel, transforming it into a billion-dollar mega-company and household name that would be remembered by many. On the flip side, many also know him by his toxic comments and insensitive views spewing fatphobic statements such as, “No one wants to see curvy women on the runway.” A real-life walking, talking ‘Card against humanity’ fashion legend remains to be a great contributor to the realms of fashion and continues to leave behind a complicated legacy. We’ll finish this off with one of my favorite qoutes of his “There are peasent in the country who are beyond chic in their poor rags and very rich women who are not chic in the most expensive dress.” Check this out to view Langerfeld’s last Chanel collection.
